The terms "brand" and logo" are often confused, but they are not the same.

A brand is the range of features that distinguishes a business and is typically comprised of the name, tagline, logo overall design, personality and tone.

In a competitive industry, establishing a strong brand identity is vital in order to stand out from the compeitition.

Your brand identity not only reflects who you are as a business, but also communicates the value you provide to your customers.

Why is your brand identity so important?

Your brand identity is crucial if you want to stand out in a crowded marketplace.

It can elicit trust and confidence in customers and increase their sense of loyalty.

It is more than just a logo.

Here are seven key steps to building a strong brand identity.

Identify your audience

Before you can work out how to develop your brand identity, you first need to consider who your brand is aimed at.

Different people respond to different tones of voice and personality.

If you can understand what is important to your target market, you can design a brand that engages and connects with them.

A simple way to identify your target customers is to create buyer personas.

Define your unique selling proposition (USP)

What will set your carpet cleaning business apart from your competition?

Is it:

Your USP should resonate with your target audience and differentiate your business in your marketplace.

Competitor research

Conduct competitor research to get a better idea of how to create your USP.

Consider their websites, pricing and tone of voice.

Try and match your competitors’ strengths while identifying their weaknesses and highlighting your own unique strengths.

Define your brand's message and purpose

Develop a clear brand message that communicates exactly what your business stands for.

This message should communicate your values and commitment to achieving excellence with your carpet and upholstery cleaning services.

This brand message should run through all your marketing channels including your website, social media accounts and offline marketing materials.

To develop a concise brand message, ask yourself these three simple questions:

Design a logo and company identity

Investing in professional logo design and branding is money well spent.

A strong logo and brand visually represents your business' personality and core values.

The logo, colours, typography and images should all work together to create a cohesive identity that resonates with your target audience.

Consistency in your online and offline marketing and branding helps to reinforce brand recognition.

Develop a personality and brand voice

Your personality and tone of voice is what attracts people to your brand.

Your tone of voice should be consistent across all marketing channels.

After all, if your website is written in a professional, formal and trustworthy tone, but your social media feed is full of childish memes and sloppy grammar, then doubt and mistrust can be sewn into the mind of your audience.

Decide how formal or informal you want your brand to be.

A little bit of fun and humour in your marketing is fine, but it's a delicate balance.

Communicating in a personal, friendly and professional tone goes a long way.

Engage your audience

Build connections with your target audience through active engagement on social media and update your website with regular blog posts and news articles.

Share helpful content such as cleaning tips, behind the scenes upadates on projects and customer testimonials.

And always try to respond promptly to customer enquiries.

This will help position your carpet cleaning brand as a trusted authority in your area.

A high-quality machine that is reliable and operating to its full potential is vital in achieving the best carpet cleaning results.

But like any other piece of equipment, carpet cleaning machines have a lifespan, and at some point your machine will require upgrading.

In this article, we'll explore the signs that indicate it may be time to upgrade your carpet cleaning machine.

Decreased cleaning performance

One of the most obvious signs that it's time to upgrade your carpet cleaning machine is that despite keeeping on top of maintenance, you're seeeing a consistent decrease in cleaning performance.

Over time, wear and tear can take a toll on the components of your machine, leading to reduced performance, increased breakdowns and escalating maintenence costs.

While routine maintenance is important to help prolong the life of your machine, constant recurring issues such as leaks, decreased suction and motor malfunctions  may indicate underlying problems that are no longer cost-effective to fix.

If you find that you are not achieving the results and drying times that you used to, despite there being no obvious faults with your machine, it might be time to consider an upgrade.

Investing in a new and more reliable carpet cleaning machine will save you time, money and customers in the long run.

You're operating multiple machines

As your business evolves, you will likely find that you're cleaning carpets in a multitude of setting - some requiring different cleaning methods.

In the past, this led many carpet cleaners to purchase multiple machines and pieces of equipment in order to tackle different carpets and fabrics.

This isn't necessary.

Texatherm have designed professional machines that are able to adapt, combine, and deliver multiple cleaning methods - and without the reliability issues suffered by our competitors.

Prior to Texatherm, there had never been a single carpet cleaning system capable of carrying out a variety of jobs and cleaning methods in both domestic and commercial situations.

Dated technology

Technology in the carpet cleaning industry is constantly evolving... (or at least it should be).

If your current carpet cleaning machine is several years old, the chances are it may be using dated technology that pales in comparison to models like Texatherm's EMV 409.

Upgrading to a modern machine can significantly enhance your cleaning results, therefore reducing breakdowns and saving you money.

Let's take a look at the benefits of upgrading to the EMV 409:

Environmental credentials

In today's eco-conscious world, an increasing number of consumers are seeking eco-friendly cleaning solutions that minimise environmental impact.

If your current carpet cleaning machine is a gas-belching dinosaur, it may be time to consider the impression this leaves on your customers and consider upgrading to a greener alternative that uses less water and energy.

Many old truckmount carpet cleaning machines burn 2-4 litres of fuel per hour - that’s approximately 5.24kg -10.48kg of carbon dioxide an hour for diesel and 4.78kg – 9.56 kg of C02 an hour for petrol.

Texatherm machines draw minimal power from clean electricity.

This gives the ability to deliver a highly efficient clean with as minimal use of energy as possible, with a reduction of 40% to 60% water usage compared to conventional cleaning systems.

And our environmental ambitions extend to our range of carpet cleaning chemicals and products.

Our cleaning solutions are bio-degradable and come in a concentrated form, delivering industrial power whilst minimising water & plastic usage.

Whether you're a seasoned carpet cleaning professional looking to upgrade your equipment, or a newcomer to the industry looking to achieve great results from day one, this guide will equip you with the knowledge to choose the right machine.

Introduction to professional carpet cleaning machines and methods

Beofre purchasing a carpet cleaning machine, it is important to consider the benefits and drawbacks for the method of cleaning that a machine is able to perform.

Some cleaning methods and machines may be better suited to routine maintenance cleaning, while other methids and machinery may be needed to tackle heavily soiled carpets with stubborn stains and ingrained dirt.

The most important thing is to pick a professional-grade machine - and a process - that will achieve the best results possible.

Here are the most common and effective methods of cleaning carpets:

Hot Water Extraction

Hot Water Extraction (HWE), commonly referred to as steam cleaning, is a highly effective and widely used method for deep cleaning carpets and upholstery. It usually involves several steps:

  1. Preparation: Before the HWE cleaning process begins, the carpet should be thoroughly vacuumed to remove loose dirt and debris. This initial step is essential to ensure that the there are no loose soils or grit preventing the cleaning solution from penetrating deep into the carpet fibres.
  2. Pre-Spray Treatment: The carpets are pre-treated with a specialised cleaning solution, paying particular attention to areas of heavy soiling. These carept cleaning solutions are designed to break down and dissolve dirt and stains, making them easier to remove during the hot water extraction process.
  3. Agitation: To further prepare the carpet for extraction, a machine or hand held brush is used to agitate the carpet fibers. This agitation loosens dirt and stains in the fibers.
  4. Dwelling Time: After the carpet has been pre-sprayed and agitated, it is importsant to allow the cleaning chemcials to dwell for a short time (typically 10-15 minutes) so that the soils and stains will be easier to extract.
  5. Extraction: A hot water extraction carpet cleaning machine has two hoses attached for suction and solution. A carpet cleaning wand is attached to the two pipes and an operator will utilise the water pressure and suction to remove the soils, stains and moisture from the carpet fibres.
  6. Rinse: Depending on the chemicals used, in some cases, a further rinse step may be necessary in order to neutralise and remove any chemical residues from the carpet. This will help prevent premature resoiling.
  7. Drying: After the hot water extraction process, the carpet is left to dry. Air movers and dehumidifiers may be used to quicken the drying process, ensuring that the carpet is ready for use as soon as possible.

Dry Carpet Cleaning

Dry carpet cleaning is a cleaning method that utilises dry cleaning compounds and powders to clean carpets without the use of excessive moisture. Unlike traditional wet cleaning methods, dry carpet cleaning minimise water usage, allowing for faster drying times and reducing the risk of mold or mildew growth.

Here's how the dry carpet cleaning process typically works:

1. Applying The Cleaning Compound: A dry cleaning compound or chemical powder is applied to the carpet. The compounds contain absorbent agents and detergents that are designed to loosen, attract and absorb soils from the carpet fibers.

2. Agitation: The cleaning compound is worked into the carpet fibers using a mechanical brush or counter-rotating brushes. This agitation process helps the cleaning compound to penetrate deep into the carpet fibres, letting them get straight to work abosrbing the dirt. The cleaning compound granules are then vacuumed up, leaving behind a dry, clean carpet.

3. Dwelling: After agitation, the cleaning compound is allowed to sit on the carpet for a specific period, typically 15-30 minutes. During this time, the cleaning agents in the compound break down the dirt and stains, making them easier to remove during the subsequent vacuuming process.

4. Vacuuming: A specialized dry carpet cleaning machine equipped with powerful suction is used to vacuum up the cleaning compound along with the loosened dirt and grime. The machine's strong vacuuming action ensures that both the cleaning compound and the dirt are effectively removed from the carpet.

5. Post-Cleaning Inspection: After the cleaning process is complete, technicians inspect the carpet to ensure that all visible stains and dirt have been removed. If necessary, spot treatments can be applied to address any remaining stains.

Machines used by professionals

Hot water extraction machine - sometimes referred to as a steam cleaner. This machine sprays a mixture of hot water and cleaning solution onto the carpet, agitates the carpet fibers to loosen dirt, and extracts the solution along with the dirt. It is highly effective for deep cleaning and is often preferred for its ability to remove allergens and bacteria.

Dry Carpet Cleaning Machines utilize specialized cleaning compounds or powders that are applied to the carpet. These compounds attract dirt, allowing it to be vacuumed away. This method is preferred for its quick drying time and is ideal for situations where minimal moisture is desired, such as in commercial spaces where immediate use of a carpet is necessary.

Bonnet Cleaning Machines involve the use of a rotary machine with a cleaning pad soaked in a cleaning solution. This method is often used for routine maintenance in commercial settings. The machine's rotating action agitates the carpet fibers, allowing the pad to absorb the cleaning solution and dirt.

Encapsulation Carpet Cleaners use a cleaning solution that encapsulates dirt particles into a dry residue. After application, the residue is vacuumed away, leaving the carpet clean and dry. This method is known for its low moisture usage, making it suitable for places where fast drying is essential.

Low Moisture Carpet Cleaning Machines generally involve the use of specialized machines that use minimal water and cleaning solutions. These machines also offer quick drying times, making them popular choices in areas where rapid turnaround is essential.

Having the best professional carpet and upholstery cleaning equipment is essential to the success of your business.

But knowing how to effectively clean carpets and upholstery is just as important.

Indeed, undertaking professional training is vital to achieve to the best results and earn repeat customers.

Here are 9 reasons why professional training is so important for carpet cleaning companies:

Effective cleaning techniques

Professional training equips an operator with the most effective and efficient cleaning techniques, ensuring that carpets and upholstery are cleaned thoroughly and safely.

Training helps a business achieve the best results while minimising the risk of potential issues or damage.

Increased productivity

Texatherm machines are the most advanced in the industry, but in order to make the most of any carpet cleaning machine, it is important that you are fully-trained in the most effective operational practices.

Knowing your equipment inside out has a big impact on productivity and profitability.

Knowledge of carpet types

Different carpets and fibres can require different cleaning methods and will respond differently to cleaning and stain removal products.

Not knowing which cleaning solutions to use on which carpets could cause irreversible damage.

Trained carpet cleaning technicians know how to identify the different carpet fibres and apply appropriate cleaning techniques and chemicals.

Customer safety

A good training course will arm you with the knowledge and understanding of the appropriate use of particular cleaning chemicals and equipment.

This ensures the safety of customers and staff and reduces the risk of accidents.

Great customer service

Great service is the cornerstone of any customer-facing service business.

Professional training provides cleaning technicians with the knowledge, tools and confidence to satisfy the expectations of customers and grow the business.

Reduced liability

Proper training helps you make the right decisions at the right time.

It helps to minimize the risk of damage to a customer's carpets and sofas, reducing potential liability for the company.

Saves money

Investing in professional training can prevent costly mistakes caused by untrained carpet cleaning technicians.

If you damage a carpet or sofa then you will be liable for the cost of replacement or repair.

Even with insurance, you'll still be faced with the cost of the excess and increased insurance premiums.

Opportunity to upsell

Trained cleaning technicians are able to identify problems that can be solved with your services and that the customer will benefit from.

This leads to more opportunities to upsell additional services and increase revenue for the business.

Employee retention

Providing your employees with ongoing training and development can enhance retention and loyalty by increasing their confidence and job satisfaction.

It also demonstrates that the company is invested in their growth.

You may have assumed that all carpet cleaning machines utilise heat or have a built-in heating system.

This isn't then case.

The majority of professional carpet machines don't have a built-in heating system, and the manufaturers instead recommend using an external bolt-on heaters.

This is far from ideal because extrenal heaters add extra weight that makes the machine clunky and heavy. It also adds extra cost to your professional set-up.

Submersible, built-in heating systems are compact, efficient and cost-effective (they are inlcluded in the purchase price of the machine).

And this is why Texatherm have chosen to develop and install our own built-in heating systems into our machines.

Why you need to utilise heat when cleaning carpets

A reliable heat source is vital in achieving the best carpet cleaning results.
Heat significantly improves drying times and assists in opening up carpet fibres to aid the release of soils and stains.

To help release soil from carpet and fabric fibres, we need to alter the water’s surface tension and heat does a great job at doing this.

When we increase heat, we decrease the cohesive forces of surface tension, allowing cleaning solutions to efficiently release the trapped soils from the fibres.

When heat is introduced to carpets and fabrics it helps to temporarily alter the tensile strength of the fibres, making them slightly softer & looser which helps with the penetration of cleaning solutions and the release of trapped soils.

But you may not always need to use heat, and on occasions it may be preferable to rinse using cold water.

All Texatherm EMV professional carpet cleaning machines are fitted with a bespoke 316 stainless steel, duo twin circuit, 3000-watt, submersible heater as standard.

This gives you the option to rinse using hot or cold water and ensures quick flow and constant heat transfer.

How does heat improve drying times, and why does it matter?

Heat increases air cicrulation and the energy of water molecules, causing them to evaporate more quickly.

This increased rate of evaporation is important because it helps prevent the growth of mold and mildew, which thrive in sustained damp environments.

By removing excess moisture from the carpet fibres as fast as possible, you make it difficult for microorganisms to develop.

The benefits of Texatherm's heating system

After many years of research and development, we have found that the most effective and reliable heating system for a professional carpet cleaning machine is a built-in submersible heater.

Our built-in heating system out-performs bolt-on inline heating systems that are often unreliable and provide inconsistent heat delivery.

This is because inline heating systems are designed to deliver a static temperature through controlled constant flow. Any reduction or increase in water flow can cause the set temperature to fluctuate, and when using an extraction wand, we are constantly changing the water flow when the trigger is pressed.

This disrupts the flow of water and causes a rise or fall in temperature as the heater struggles to maintain temperature.

The Texatherm EMV utilises bespoke duo twin circuit, 3000-watt, submersible heating elements designed in-house at Texatherm Systems.

Our elements are made of 316 marine grade stainless steel with two built in heating circuits and temperature controls. The duo element heats water at a fast rate, and the flow technology will cycle the heat on and off to hold whichever temperature you’ve set, ensuring your rinse temperature is consistent throughout the cleaning process.

Conclusion

Heat plays a vital role in achieving the best carpet cleaning results.

Consistent, digitally controlled heat delivery will increase water evaporation, improve drying times and enhance overall cleaning efficacy.

Faster drying times will help prevent the growth of mold and bacteria and ensure that carpets and sofas are ready for use sooner by your customers. This is an important part of creating a great customer experience and improving your reputation as a trusted professional carpet cleaning company.

As a professional carpet cleaner, choosing the right van size is an important decision.

When selecting a van, you need to consider your budget, the amount of equipment you'll be carrying, and also its ability to carry additional load if you add on services and staff at a later date.

Professional carpet cleaning requires carrying specialised equipment, including heavy extraction machines, hoses, pipes and cleaning chemicals. Knowing the dimensions and storage requirements of this equipment is essential in order to ensure you have a van that can carry the equipment with space to operate (most carpet cleaners find themselves hopping in and out of the back of their vans to find an elusive piece of kit on a daily basis!)

In this article, we'll explore the advantages and disadvantages of different sized vans, so you can make an informed decision on which type of van will suit your business.

Compact Vans

Compact vans offer manoeuvrability in tight parking spaces and better fuel efficiency than heavy, large vans. This makes them ideal for operating in busy cities with limited parking spaces and congestion. , making them an attractive option for maneuvering through busy urban areas.

But these benefits do come at a cost.

Limited interior and loading space will pose challenges when trying to fit in all of your equipment, tools and cleaning chemicals. Often, it becomes difficult to fit in racking and reels as you try and maximise every last inch of space.

Medium-Sized Vans

Medium-sized vans offer a nice balance between compact and large vans.

They provide more loading space, allowing for easier access to the back of the van and it's easier to store equipment without having to leave any kit off your van.

And althoug they won't fit into the tightest of parking spaces, they are far easier to manoeuvre than long wheel base vans.

The fuel efficiency of modern medium-sized vans is also good.

Large / Long Wheel Base Vans

Large vans offer excellent storage options and the ability to add new equipment if you expand your services.

Vans of this size are ideal for businesses requiring extra space for multiple pieces of carpet and upholstery cleaning equipment. However, their size may pose challenges in busy, congested areas and streets with tight parking spaces; it is not just the parking of your van that can prove tricky - you must also consider the space required to open the rear doors to gain access to hose reels.

Payload Capacity and Weight

It is vital you confirm that your van has sufficient payload capacity to accommodate a professional carpet cleaning machine, extra equipment and supplies (along with water weight if you will be carrying a water supply) without exceeding its legal weight limits.

Exceeding its payload can lead to legal penalties, safety risks and significantly increased wear on tyres and mechanical parts.

Future Growth and Expansion

When searching for your next van, consider if you would like to expqnd in the future beyond your current staffing levels and services.

Will growth require an extra member of staff travelling in the van and increased equipment to be stored in the back?

If it fits within your budget, then purchasing a van that can accommodate expansion will save you money in the long term.

So, what is the best van for most carpet cleaning companies?

While every business is different, we believe that the mid-sized van with a large side loading door will suit most carpet cleaning companiers best (e.g. Vauxhall Vivaro, Mercedes Vito, Renault Traffic, VW Transporter or Ford Transit).

This type of van will offer good fuel economy, sufficient space for equipment and good manoeuvrability in the majority of working environments

To put it bluntly, anyone can start a carpet cleaning business.

To do so requires no formal qualifications, skills or experience.

And this is why the industy is plagued with part-time cowboys operating cheap - and sometimes rented - equipment out of the boot of their cars.

It is why carpet cleaning results vary so wildly.

And it's why many homeowners are wary of carpet cleaners.

It is no way to run any business.

Not only does this approach provide for a terrible customer experience... it also makes it almost imposssible to grow a profitable and sustainable business.

And so while you may not need any formal qualifications to start a carpet cleaning business, it is vital that you invest in high-quality traning if you want to start your business off on the right foot.

Here are the steps you should take:

Book a professional course

Professional carpet and upholstery cleaning training courses will help you attain the knowledge required to start your business with confidence.

A carpet cleaning course with a mix of practical and theory based learning will provide you with the skills and techniques that will enable you to achieve results that will thrill your cusotmers.

And it will also make you aware of the potential issues you may face on jobs, thereby reducing the risk of damage and liability.

This is particularly important if you're going to be cleaning upholstery and fine fabrics, where using the wrong equipment, chemicals and processes can cause irreversible damage to delicate fabrics (book your upholstery and fine fabrics traning course here).

Carpet and upholstery cleaning isn't complicated.

Investing in reputable courses will mean you gain the confidence to tackle any issues you come across and attain results that will help your business grow through positive feedback in your community.

Get experience with professional cleaning equipment and techniques

The most important skill you will learn on a course will be how to operate professional carpet cleaning equipment.

Professional carpet cleaning machines all vary in their specifications and how they are operated.

And the best way to learn and understand these differences is to get practical, hands-on experience.

Most training course providers offer training on the machines that they sell themselves and so you may look to book a number of courses and get a feel for the differences in the brands and manufacturers.

In some cases the differences are subtle, and there's many similarities between many of the major brands that manufacture hot water extraction machines.

In our case, we believe the differences in performance and usable features that a Texatherm machine offers the operative are significant.

Texatherm's EMV 409 is the ultimate professional carpet cleaning machine.

Book a training course today and see the difference for yourself.

Polish your customer service skills

To become a successful business owner, you need great customer service skills.

Working at close quarters with customers in homes and commercial premises means it’s important to present a professional appearance at all times.

Great customer service will ensure your customers come back to you the next time they need their carpets and upholstery cleaned.

Learn to sell your service

Being a business owner means that you will be responsible for finding new customers.

This can be done through various online marketing strategies.

But once you have a flow of customer leads coming in, you need to be able to sell your business and services when you quote for new work.

This might be done via the phone, or in person.

In both cases, you should look the part.

Wear your professional uniform, be on time, and don't try to oversell or exagerate.

Simply be yourself and be confident.

And this confidence comes from knowing your job, having trust in your equipment, and having confidence in the training that you have undertaken.

"Our portable engine and air compressor mounted on a strong truck arrives at your residence or other building to be cleaned in the morning. A small hose is run into the house, the tools are coupled up, which compresses some 75 feet of free pure outdoor air per minute at a high pressure which is conveyed through our patented tools to the articles to be cleaned. Nothing is taken from the premises. Carpets are cleaned right on the floor where they belong"

These words by John S. Thurman, are taken from a newspaper advert in 1899, advertising what is believed to be the first door-to-door carpet cleaning service. Thurman’s machine was transported by horse-drawn cart, and rather than extracting dust and soil into a machine, merely blew dust into a receptacle.

Thurman's invention was to prove the catalyst to the first commercial suction cleaner, deveoped by Hubert Cecil Booth.

After watching a demonstration of Thurman's device blowing dust off chairs, Booth thought that "...if the system could be reversed, and a filter inserted between the suction apparatus and the outside air, whereby the dust would be retained in a receptacle, the real solution of the hygienic removal of dust would be obtained."

And so he tested the idea by laying a handkerchief on the seat of a restaurant chair, putting his mouth to the handkerchief, and then trying to suck up as much dust as he could onto the handkerchief. Upon seeing the dust and dirt collected on the underside of the handkerchief, he realized the idea could work.

Booth proceeded to create a large cleaning machine, driven by an internal combustion engine. Nicknamed the "Puffing Billy", Booth's first petrol-powered, horse-drawn vacuum cleaner relied upon air drawn by a piston pump through a cloth filter.

Evolution Of Professional Carpet Cleaning Machines

The cleaning process didn't involve any form of carpet cleaning chemicals or agitation (the machine didn't contain any brushes) - all the cleaning was done by suction through long tubes with nozzles on the ends.

The machine would often be seen parked outside of businesses or homes that were being cleaned, with the hose running through the windows of buildings to where the carpet was to be cleaned. And although the machine was too bulky to be brought into a home or business, its principles of operation were essentially the same as the vacuum and carpet cleaning machines of today.

Indeed, while difficult to manoeuvre, these vacuum cleaning machines were quite sophisticated compared to what came before.

Carpet cleaning in the early 19th century

In the early 19th century, carpets were seen as a fashion statement and very much the preserve of the wealthy.

But cleaning them effectively was a difficult task left to household servants who would sweep up dust, soils and soot with a dustpan and brush.

As you can imagine, the majority of the soot and fine particles of dirt would simply be released into the air and settle back into the carpet fibres.

In addition to using a dustpan and brush, homeowners would protect their carpet from stains by covering it with draggets, which were thick fabrics that acted as a barrier between spillages and a carpet. These would most often be used around dining tables and seating areas in order to catch crumbs.

As carpets became more desirable and accessible, people searched for new ways of cleaning them effectively, with the infamous beating technique now being widely used. This involved hanging carpets up outside and vigorously beating them to remove the dust and soils; quite a heavy task for a housewife with a large carpet!

Carpet cleaning in the 1830’s

By the 1830’s housewives were using household recipes to treat carpet stains.

One such method was to scrub the carpet with lemon juice and hot loaves after it had been swept by broom.

After the carpet had been subjected to this crude treatment, they would give the carpet a rinse using cold water before hanging it up outside to dry on a sunny day.

Carpet cleaning from 1869-1880

In 1869, Ives W. McGaffey was granted a U.S. Patent for an IMPROVED SWEEPING-MACHINE.

The patent was granted device for the first device for cleaning rugs. While not motorised or electric, it is known as the first hand-pumped vacuum cleaner in the United States.

He called his machine “Whirlwind”.

While a big step forward, the name didn't quite live up to its billing, because "Whirlwind" was difficult to use and required the operator to manually turn a crank while pushing the machine across the floor.

McGaffey is credited by many historians for the invention of the vacuum, and while Whirlwind was not a motorized or electric vacuum cleaner, it is known as the first hand-pumped vacuum cleaner in the United States.

Carpet cleaning in the 1880’s - early 1900's

During the majority of this period, people relied on the traditional methods of beating and rinsing carperts while further experimenting with homemade stain removal concoctions.

One such method involved combining clay paste with water and leaving this mixture on the carpet overnight to dry. In the morning, the paste was swept from the carpet, carrying away stains and soil with it.

And then in 1899, American entrepreneur John Thurman invented the first fully motorised vacuum cleaner, which was improved upon by the introduction of Hubert Cecil Booth's horse-drawn, petrol-powered machine in 1901.

Then in 1907, the American, James Spangler was credited with producing the first electrically powered vacuum cleaner that revolutionised household carpet cleaning.

William H. Hoover was so impressed with the vacuum cleaner that he bought into Spangler's business and patents.

1920’s onwards

During the 1920 and 1930’s carpet became unfashionable and it wasn’t until the 1940's that the industry progressed and manufacturers turned their attention to developing effective cleaning chemicals and producing more sophisticated machines with improved suction.

While carpet cleaning has changed a great deal over the years, many of its methods can be traced back to these former years of exploration.

This has led to an era where professional carpet cleaning companies have never been in more demand.

But how do the carpet cleaning machines of today stack up against Thurman and Booth's industrial gas-guzzling units?

Carpet cleaning today

While carpet cleaning techniques and cleaning chemistry has advanced considerably over the years, the machines have not improved at the rate you might expect.

Investment by the majority of manufacturers has been poor, with only minor changes being implemented.

Indeed, while the appearance of machines has changed, the technology and internal components have not kept pace with other industries, with the build quality in general being poor.

This means that many of today's machines struggle to maintain efficient performance and suffer with ongoing reliability issues.

This is accepted as being par for the course when running a busy carpet cleaning business and operating a machine on a daily basis.

But this should not be the case.

Prior to the birth of Texatherm in 1998, there had never been a single carpet cleaning system capable of carrying out a variety of jobs and cleaning methods - in both domestic and commercial situations.

Over the years, Texatherm have been determined to solve this problem and it has resulted in a machine and system that can adapt, combine and deliver different cleaning methods.

We knew that we had to design and build a truly unique and reliable professional carpet cleaning machine if we were to achieve our objectives.

And that machine is the EMV 409.

Delivering outstanding customer service is a crucial component of building a successful carpet cleaning business.

When a customer experiences great customer service, they will remain loyal to your business and are likely to generate you new business through positive word-of-mouth referrals.

But how do you develop and deliver the type of experience that means your customers remain loyal for years to come?

Here are some key steps you can take:

Maintain prompt and responsive communication

Respond to all inquiries promptly.

Whether they come through phone calls, emails, WhatsApp or social media, aim to respond as soon as possible.

This is particularly the case with any complaint or queries - dealing with a difficult issue promptly and sensitively, can turn a negative experience into a positive one.

Personalise your service

Treat each customer as an individual and personalise your service.

Use their names when addressing them and make an effort to understand their specific needs and preferences.

And then tailor your services accordingly.

Be transparent with your pricing

Provide transparent pricing and service information upfront.

There is nothing worse than being surprised with an unexpected charge or add-on.

If you can't be sure of the exact cost then try and provide a guide proce range. This transparency will build trust with your customers.

Provide a reminder

Streamline your appointment process to minimise any inconvenience for you and more importantly your customers.

Send automated reminders via email, WhatsApp or SMS a day before appointments to ensure your customers are prepared and expecting you.

Reminders are always appreciated and will reduce the chances of missed appointments and lost income.

Be reliable and punctual

How many times have you had a tradesperson call to cancel an appointment with a lame excuse? Quite a few I'd imagine.

Don't be that person.

Respect your customers' time by arriving on time. And if any delays or issues arise, let your customers know as soon as possible and provide regular updates.

Be friendly and professional

Always maintain a friendly and professional demeanor.

Listen to any concerns your customers may have, be empathetic, and treat them with respect and courtesy.

A positive attitude (even with the most trying of customers!) can go a long way in gaining a customer for life.

Don't cut corners

Always maintain high standards in your service and don't cut corners just because you're having a tough day.

Provide the same attention to detail to every job you do, always with the aim of thrilling your customers.

Be proud of your service and your equipment.

If you own a Texatherm, then you already have the best professional carpet cleaning machinery on the planet!

And so it's important that you clean your machinery and keep on top of maintenenace in order to minimise any potential of breakdowns.

Request feedback

In the days following your appointments, follow up and request feedback from your customers.

Encourage them to share how they think your service could have been better and then aim to improve on any areas where you seem to be consistently falling short.

Offer incentives

Implementing a loyalty program or referral scheme is a great way to develop repeat business and encourage customers to refer your services to others.

This could be through a loyalty card that offers a free clean of an item once they've booked x number of jobs or have exceeded a particular level of spend.

Or it could simply be via a thank you card that contains a voucher that can be put towards their next carpet or upholstery cleaning booking.

Whether you're a newcomer to the carpet cleaning industry, or you're a veteran with several years on the wand, choosing the right equipment is the most important decision you'll make.

Great results and customer satisfaction are how you build a strong carpet and upholstery cleaning business that will thrive in the long term.

Unfortunately, since commercial hot water extraction cleaning machines were introduced to the UK in the 1970s very little has changed.

Investment by manufacturers in the development of new technologies and methods for our industry has been poor, and while the aesthetics of the machines have changed, the technology and internal workings have not kept pace with other industries, with the build quality, in general, being poor.

And due to their design and current lack of systems to control the machines' critical components, many machines suffer from performance and reliability issues.

Indeed, there is an acceptance by industry professionals to expect periodic breakdowns and ongoing maintenance due to leaks and short-lived components.

But there is a company in the carpet cleaning industry doing things differently.

Our Background

Back in the 1990s, Mark Mullane started a specialist carpet and upholstery cleaning company based in Portishead called Aquadri. The company grew steadily and traded within a 50-mile radius of Bristol.

Whilst operating the Aquadri business, Mark found that his success and quality of work were attracting enquiries from large commercial companies.

While this was welcome, moving from residential work to commercial proved to be tricky due to the construction of low-profile carpets and their impervious backs which would not allow airflow to be pulled through the backing. This meant that traditional standard cleaning methods such as hot water extraction could not always deliver the standards Mark required.

After extensive research, it became clear that there was nothing available that would better the systems and methods he was already using. Further research confirmed that the norm in the industry was to extract and then run a bonnet machine over the carpet afterwards or just bonnet pad clean the surface of the fibres.

Neither of these methods could achieve the results Mark expected and so he started to look for alternatives and through his own experience of cleaning carpets realised that heat played a pivotal part in the cleaning processes he was already using.

He then started experimenting with heating pads and prototyping chemicals with a toll blender and found that a combination of an alcohol-based pre-spray release agent applied directly to the carpet followed by mixing a reactive solution via a heated pad produced startling results.

Now it was time to tackle the biggest issue of all.

The Machinery

What Makes Texatherm Different

There has never been one method or cleaning machine that would clean the vast array of carpets and upholstery fabrics available today.

To this day, most companies purchase multiple pieces of expensive equipment to enable them to complete the range of jobs they face each week. Historically, this was also the case for Texatherm operatives who still needed hot water extraction machines to clean upholstery and deal with certain types of carpet cleaning jobs.

While our clients loved our Texatherm system, they still had to set up other machinery when on jobs that encompassed carpet, upholstery and possibly hard floor cleaning. The feedback from our clients was that they would like to be able to set up one machine that could adapt, combine and deliver multiple cleaning methods.

After five years of research and development, the EMV201 was born (now the EMV409)

With the EMV,  We systematically went about scrutinising every individual component in an extraction machine, followed by detailed consultations enlisting the help of engineers from relevant industries. This gave us an understanding of why machines were currently unreliable with short life spans. We then set about individually designing each weakness out of our design. This was achieved by commissioning specialists in each field and developing new control systems whilst stipulating that our suppliers deliver to our design specifications and not theirs.

The Texatherm Difference

While the EMV is first and foremost a hot water extraction machine, it has been designed to allow you to clean using other methods that would usually require you to spend thousands of pounds on additional equipment.

The nature of carpet and upholstery cleaning means that there isn't one single method that can clean all types of furnishings effectively and it is important to be able to adapt and change processes and methods as required.

Being able to utilise multiple methods of cleaning makes the Texatherm system incredibly cost-effective, particularly for new start-up carpet cleaning businesses.

When you invest in Texatherm, you're able to clean using hot water extraction or with a low moisture process that leaves carpets dry in as little as 30 minutes. In addition, you can clean using our dual combination method, which achieves next-level results.

The Texatherm system allows you to effectively clean, carpets, upholstery, curtains, mattresses and hard floors!

Indeed, our digital EMV 409 allows cleaning technicians to switch between cleaning methods in minutes. No wasted time packing away equipment and setting up new equipment if a new cleaning approach is needed in order to complete a job.

Innovative technology & industry-first features

Texatherm have heavily invested in the design, development and manufacture of innovative technologies, creating the worlds most advanced professional carpet cleaning machine with built-in industry first features developed to solve current industry wide problems.

Further benefits of the patented Texatherm deep cleaning system

Simplified cleaning chemistry

With such a large variety of chemical solutions available, cleaning chemistry is a topic that can easily cause confusion among new startups.

And this is why Texatherm have taken a simplified approach to chemical solutions, developing a small multi-purpose range of powerful, industrial strength solutions that can be used for standalone extraction cleaning or in conjunction with our patented cleaning system and unique combination cleaning system.

Are you ready to experience the difference can Texatherm can make to your business?

Whether you're new to the carpet and upholstery cleaning industry, or you would like to improve the systems and processes of an established company, we'd love to show you how Texatherm can improve your business.

We believe we offer a real step-up in performance, reliability, economy and versatility.

In a previous post, The Definitive Guide to Starting a Carpet Cleaning Business in the UK, we covered some of the advertising and marketing strategies needed to grow a carpet cleaning business in the UK. But we could have covered so much more and felt that this section needed its own post in order to provide as much detail and value for our readers as possible.

In this blog post, we discuss the changing landscape of carpet cleaning marketing and how companies can adapt to this fast-paced digital environment.

We will look at the importance of your digital presence, as well as the benefits of partnerships and utilising innovative marketing strategies. We will also explore the critical role of customer trust and how online reviews and testimonials can help build or damage your reputation.

We'll cover how you can optimise your website for local searches, maximize your ROI with targeted advertising, and measure the success of your marketing campaigns.

Our goal is to provide you with practical and actionable strategies to help you succeed in a competitive and lucrative market.

Whether you're an aspiring carpet cleaner or an old hand on the wand, this blog post is for you.

The changing landscape of carpet cleaning marketing in 2024

One of the significant changes in the carpet cleaning industry has been the increasing use of digital marketing in recent years.

In the past, traditional marketing methods such as the Yellow Pages, leaflets, newspaper ads, billboards and radio ads were the primary means of reaching new customers. However, with the rise of the internet, social media and mobile devices, carpet cleaning companies now have access to a wide range of digital marketing tools.

And if you're one of those people who embrace change and have an eagerness to learn, then it opens up a world of opportunity.

Gone are the days of needing to spend thousands of pounds on large print ads; with an intelligent marketing strategy, you can compete and overtake more established companies who rest on their laurels.

However, this open marketplace does have its downsides. The increased competition and ease of entry have made it more challenging for carpet cleaning companies to stand out in a market where each and every business proclaims to be the best.

This is why you must develop a comprehensive marketing strategy that not only focuses on acquiring new customers but also on retaining existing ones.

Because if you don't, your competitors are only a click away.

Moreover, the rise of digital media has changed the way carpet cleaning companies interact with their customers. Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram have become essential channels for companies to engage with their customers, showcase their services, and build brand awareness. They also enable customers to leave real-time reviews, meaning your reputation can be enhanced or destroyed at any moment.

Online Marketing: The Importance of a strong digital presence for carpet cleaning companies

Marketing For Carpet Cleaning Companies

In today's digital age, having a strong online presence is critical for the success of any business.

Being active online will help you reach a wider audience, showcase your services, and build brand awareness. Simply paying for a cheap website and leaving it to gather dust in the lower rankings of Google won't cut it in 2024.

One of the main advantages of having an active digital presence is the ability to reach a large, targeted audience. With the continuing growth of the internet and social media platforms, businesses can now connect with people they may not have been able to reach through traditional marketing methods.

Another significant advantage of having a strong digital presence is the ability to cost-effectively build brand awareness. Social media platforms provide the opportunity to engage with customers in real time and build brand loyalty.

By creating fresh, engaging digital content and interacting with your customers, you can build a positive reputation and establish yourself as a reputable brand in your local area.

Finally, your digital presence actually helps you to provide better customer service. With a professional website and active social media accounts, you can answer customer questions, provide updates, and respond to feedback promptly. This helps improve customer satisfaction and build trust, which is crucial for customer retention and generating repeat business.

Invest as early as possible in your digital presence and you'll vastly increase your chances of success in an evolving market

So, let's take a deeper look at how you can market your carpet cleaning business in the digital space.

Invest in your website

In 2023, you can get a website built and get it live on the web quickly and cheaply.

But speed and price should not be the deciding factors in the design and development of your website.

It is vital that you invest in a website that helps differentiate your business from your competitors. And if you don't have experience in building a high-quality website, then it is important to choose a reputable digital marketing and web design company that will help you achieve your goals.

After all, it is no good being ranked high in search engines only for visitors to be underwhelmed when they land on your web pages.

Your website needs to satisfy the needs of searchers.

Ask yourself: What is the purpose of my website?

Having a clear call to action on all your web pages will help the user interact with what you have to offer and gain their trust in initiating the next stage of contact.

Here are some key factors that make a carpet cleaning website effective:

Web Design

There are many facets to web design, but let's keep things simple:

User experience is the most important factor in website design.

And simplicity is always the best way to go when considering the overall design and feel of your site. It should have a natural flow and be easy to navigate.

And it should have a colour scheme that compliments your brand.

Intelligent use of colour has the power to elicit responses and increase engagement. Keep total colour selections to less than five colours and consider the emotion behind different colours and how they can be used to increase conversions.

Typography also has an important role to play on your website. It is a visual interpretation of your brand's voice.
Imagine a serious medical website using quirky, fun typography often found on soft-play business websites. It simply wouldn't be taken seriously!
Again, clarity is key. Limit your site to using 3 or fewer fonts.

Website copy

Effective copywriting turns visitors and readers into customers.

Today, people are bombarded with content marketing. Even small, local businesses are producing more content than ever before.

But local business websites are usually plagued by insipid writing. They bob around in a sea of bland, homogeneous drivel, awash with copy that fails miserably to engage or elicit emotion.

And if that is bad for SEO, it’s even worse for acquiring return visitors and customers.

Your website copy should be clear, concise and convincing.

SEO optimisation

The best carpet cleaning website in the world is of little use if searchers don't find it on page 1 of the search engine results pages (SERPs).

The process of optimising a website for the SERPS is known as SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

And in the case of a carpet cleaning business covering a specific radius, the type of SEO that moves the needle is local SEO.

Local SEO involves optimising your website to reach people searching for your services in their location. This is achieved by first carrying out keyword research that will help you understand the different phrases people type into Google when looking for your services.

While there are many ways to do this, such as Google's keyword planner, you can also carry out some quick research through trial and error using Google's search bar. Simply start typing in a Google search you believe to be relevant to your business (such as Carpet Cleaning London, or Carpet Cleaning Manchester for example) and watch as Google provides suggestions of complete phrases.

It's called Autocomplete.

Once you have some ideas and data for your keyword searches, it's time to create relevant content for your specific services and locations.

You do this by creating high-quality service and location-specific website pages.

For example, if a carpet cleaning company wished to be found by searchers looking for carpet cleaners in Manchester and Bury, then it would be wise to create location pages for each of these areas for their carpet cleaning service.

There are many other factors that will improve the search rankings of your website pages, such as on-page optimisation, backlinks and authority.

But it should all start with creating high-quality, location-specific website pages in the design phase of your website.

Leverage social media to reach new customers

Social media has become an essential part of marketing for businesses of all sizes, including carpet cleaning companies.

It is a powerful tool that can help you reach new customers, generate more leads, build brand loyalty, and establish yourself as an expert in your field.

Here are some tips for leveraging social media to reach new customers:

Identify your target audience

Before you start using social media to promote your carpet cleaning services, it is important to identify your target audience.

Who are your ideal customers? What are their needs? And where are they located?

By understanding your target audience, you can create targeted content that resonates with them and attracts their attention.

Choose the right platforms

Not all social media platforms offer equal returns when it comes to carpet cleaning.

Twitter is not going to prove as successful as Facebook. And LinkedIn is better suited for targeting business customers than homeowners.

Choose the social platforms where your target audience is most active.

For example, Facebook has many local groups and communities in which you can interact.

Instagram is also an increasingly popular platform for cleaning businesses.

Google Maps, while no longer a social platform, is an important platform that showcases local businesses on page 1, and enables customers to leave prominent reviews. (If you don't have a listing, claim it here).

And, of course, YouTube is the go-to platform for publishing video content.

Create engaging content

As a carpet cleaning business, one of the most important things you should post o social media is the before-and-after photos that show customers the end results of your service.

Results are proof that you are what you say you are.

Post videos that show the difference in the quality of your carpet cleaning machinery.

Other social content could include helpful tips that provide people with advice on how to remove stains and maintain the appearance of their carpets.

While carpet cleaning is by no means a social media viral juggernaut, the more engaging and helpful your content is, the more likely people are to share it with their friends and followers.

Engage with your audience and followers

Social media is a two-way conversation.

Always try to respond to comments, messages and feedback - both the good and the bad.

This can help build lasting relationships with your customers and increase trust and brand loyalty.

And if you do receive a negative review, take your time before responding and try to put things right.

Run paid social ads and posts

Social media platforms offer a range of advertising options that allow you to target specific locations, demographics, interests and behaviours.

Running targeted, paid ads can help you reach new customers in your location who may be interested in your carpet cleaning services; particularly in the early days of a business when your social media pages can resemble a digital graveyard.

As with all other forms of paid advertising, it is important to analyse the ROI and make changes to adverts that are not performing as expected.

Facebook, in particular, provides a lot of data for paid ad campaigns.

Publish videos to expand your reach

Video marketing is an effective way for businesses to communicate their message to their target audience; particularly the younger demographic.

As a carpet cleaning company, you can use videos to showcase your services and results, provide cleaning tips, and educate your audience on the benefits of carpet cleaning.

You can embed your videos on your website, post directly to social media platforms, and publish on YouTube to reach a wider audience.

If you're a little shy in front of the camera then it's perfectly fine to use subtitles as opposed to talking to the camera (and this enables people to watch your content with the sound off at work).

Build online reviews and testimonials

Online reviews and testimonials are essential for building trust and credibility.

It is an uphill task to gain online trust without them.

And so you should do everything you can to get as many reviews as possible as fast as you can.

Encourage your customers to leave positive reviews on your website, social media platforms and review sites.

This will help you to build a positive reputation and attract new customers.

Registering your business on local review platforms such as Google Maps, Yell and Freeindex, will also gain website links and citations that can increase online authority and improve rankings.

Set up Google Ads and Local Service campaigns

Google Ads and Local Services Ads allow you to target online searchers who are actively searching for carpet cleaning services in your area.

This means you can be competitive from day one, bidding against your competitors for customers before your website has climbed the Google rankings.

You are able to target exact locations and retain control over your advertising spend by setting up a daily budget and bidding on keywords that are relevant to your carpet cleaning business.

Google Ads provides detailed reports that track your performance and measure the success of your ad campaigns. You can see how many clicks, impressions, and conversions your ads are generating, and then use this information to make informed decisions about your future advertising strategy.

Setting up an effective Google Ads campaign can be more complicated and involved than a social media ad campaign, so it is wise to enlist the services of a professional if you are not familiar with the platform.

Send regular emails

Keep in contact with your previous customers by sending emails with relevant news, special offers, and details of services they might not be aware of that you offer.

Send periodic reminders that it has been x amount of time since their last carpet cleaning appointment.

Simply keeping in touch with your customers, without exerting any sales pressure, will generate a consistent amount of leads the longer you're in business.

Offline Marketing: Strategies that still work in 2024

Offline marketing is any type of marketing which utilises channels that are not online. This includes radio and tv ads, networking and all forms of print advertising.

Rewind a couple of decades and the vast majority of marketing was offline.

Does it still work?

Yes.

Here are some offline marketing strategies that can still be effective for carpet cleaning companies:

Direct mail via leaflets, newsletters and postcards

Sending targeted print advertising to households in your service areas can be a cost-effective way of reaching potential customers.

To increase your response rate, consider offering a special promotion or discount to encourage recipients to act.

Post flyers through the doors of houses on streets where you have worked that day and lead with the heading: "I've been working at number... today"

Send postcards to remind customers that they are due for their annual cleaning appointment.

Cold calling and door knocking

While intimidating for some people, these strategies still work if you take a relaxed and personable approach.

Again, a friendly knock on the door of the neighbours of a household in which you've been working will provide relevance and context to the person answering the door.

And in the early days of your business - with a small budget and quiet diary - it can pay dividends to get out of your comfort zone and knock on doors.

Vehicle branding

Branding your company vehicles with your logo, service details and contact information will help increase brand visibility and generate leads while working on jobs.

When the neighbours hear the sound of a machine running in their street, you want your brand to jump out at them from your van!

Make sure to keep your vehicles clean and well-maintained to project a professional image. You are a cleaning company after all.

Referral and loyalty programs

Encouraging your customers to refer their friends, family and neighbours can be a powerful way to generate new business.

Consider offering incentives as part of a referral scheme, such as a discount on future bookings.

It can also be effective to have a loyalty card for all your customers to reward them for multiple bookings or for exceeding a spending threshold.

Partnerships and networking

Building mutually beneficial relationships with other business owners and suppliers is a very cost-effective way of generating new business.

This can be achieved by attending local networking events and contacting businesses that may benefit from referring your company.

Builders, tradesmen, home removal companies and general cleaning companies that don't offer carpet cleaning as a service themselves will often need the services of a professional carpet cleaning company.

Position yourself as the first name that springs to mind.

On-Trend Marketing Strategies

On-trend marketing strategies are informed by current trends in consumer behaviour and technology.

By staying up-to-date with trending technologies, you can differentiate your business from your competitors and engage more effectively with your target audience.

Here are some innovative and trending strategies that your competitors may not be using:

Sustainability initiatives

Carpet cleaning companies can differentiate themselves from their competitors by implementing sustainability initiatives, such as using eco-friendly cleaning products or reducing water and energy usage.

By promoting their sustainable credentials, carpet cleaning companies will appeal to environmentally-conscious consumers and build strong brand loyalty.

Personalization

Whenever possible, you should use customer data to personalize your marketing efforts.

This could be as simple as sending a personal email or thank you card or offering customised cleaning packages based on a customer's specific need - think welcome baby home cleaning packages.

This can help build stronger, lasting relationships with your customers.

Influencer marketing

Consider how you can partner with influencers in your target market to promote your services.

Being promoted on social media by someone with a large following can generate a high volume of bookings in a very short amount of time.

It costs nothing to reach out to someone you feel is ideally placed to promote your business in exchange for a complimentary or discounted service.

Ready to take your carpet cleaning business to the next level?

Whether you're in the initial stages of starting your carpet cleaning company, or you're an established business looking to increase your turnover and profitability in 2024, a solid marketing plan will help you attract and retain customers.

By focusing on marketing your business consistently with a range of data-driven online and offline advertising tactics - and backing it up with great customer service - you'll always be one step ahead of your competition.

As an aspiring professional carpet cleaner, choosing the right machine is perhaps the most important business decision you'll make.

With the right equipment, your job as a carpet cleaner will become much easier and more rewarding.

But with so many options, how do you choose the right carpet cleaning machine for your business?

In this article, we'll discuss some of the key factors you should consider when choosing a professional carpet cleaning machine.

Powerful Suction

If you're going to be using the hot water extraction method of cleaning carpets, the first thing you need to look for in a professional carpet cleaning machine is powerful suction.

The machine should have a strong motor that can generate powerful suction to extract as much ingrained dirt and moisture from the carpet fibres. The more suction power the machine has, the more moisture will be removed and the faster the drying time.

Texatherm's EMV 409 utilises a custom wound 3-stage dual vacuum motor system with optimised, non-restrictive airflow paths, delivering very high-performance recovery.

Variable Pressure

Many carpet cleaners become fixated on using high psi to clean carpets...

Each and every carpet is tackled by spraying the carpet with strong chemicals and cranking up the water pressure.

This can lead to all manner of problems such as over-wetting, shrinkage and browning.

At Texatherm, we developed the world's first digital pump flow control system, with automated instant true pressure at the tool end ensuring performance remains consistent when working at a distance or high above the machine with extension hoses.

With 13 different pressure settings, you benefit from complete moisture control when cleaning a large variety of carpet and fabric types. And you get optimised flow for higher efficiency rinsing without over-wetting carpets with high-pressure pumps.

This results in outstanding dry times and cleaning results.

Heat

Many carpet cleaners choose to use the hot water extraction method of cleaning.

Some professional carpet cleaning machines can produce heated water, while others require a heater to be purchased separately.

Heat can be very useful for breaking down stubborn stains and dirt and can also help to speed up the drying process as the hot air helps to evaporate the water more quickly.

Our machines come with a bespoke, 316 stainless steel, twin circuit, 3000w heater element. It provides reliable, quick and constant heat at the tool end.

Adjustable Settings

Unfortunately, there isn’t one best cleaning method or process for cleaning carpets and upholstery.

Each method and process has its place.

The variety and variations in fabrics and carpet types mean that some cleaning methods will work better than others depending on what you’re cleaning or trying to restore.

This is why Texatherm offers multiple unique cleaning systems and methods.

We have created a complete system of specialist chemical solutions, methods and innovative equipment that complement each other and allow you to clean using multiple cleaning methods without needing to purchase several different systems.

Our digital EMV 409 allows carpet cleaning technicians to switch between cleaning methods in minutes. No wasted time packing away equipment and setting up new equipment if a new cleaning approach is needed in order to complete a job.

Durability

When choosing a professional carpet cleaning machine, look for a machine that is built to last and constructed from high-quality materials.

The machine should be able to perform reliably during busy periods when you may be required to carry out multiple jobs per day. Look for machines that come with a robust warranty, as this can give you peace of mind that the machine will be repaired if it develops any faults.

Invest in a good professional machine that will last for years and you'll save money in the long run by avoiding the need to replace or repair the machine frequently.

And you'll avoid having to cancel a full diary of jobs due to yet another breakdown.

Can we help?

Texatherm has heavily invested in the design, development and manufacture of innovative carpet cleaning technologies.

We have created the world's most advanced professional carpet cleaning machine with built-in industry-first features that have been developed to solve current industry-wide problems.

Simplified cleaning chemistry.

With such a large variety of chemical solutions available, cleaning chemistry is a topic that can easily cause confusion among new startups.

Texatherm has taken a simplified approach, developing a small multi-purpose range of powerful, industrial-strength solutions that can be used for standalone extraction cleaning or in conjunction with our patented cleaning system and unique combination cleaning system.

Starting a carpet cleaning business might seem a daunting prospect; particularly if you have no experience.

And this is true for any business.

But the fact you're here reading this post tells me you're already on the right track.

Researching, reading and seeking out trustworthy and reliable information is the best place to start your journey.

And although I might be accused of being a little biased, I believe we offer something unique to newcomers entering the carpet cleaning industry.

In this guide, we'll be covering everything you need to know to launch a successful carpet cleaning business in 2024. From planning and research to marketing and choosing the right equipment.

At Texatherm, we want you to hit the ground running with the tools, knowledge and confidence to build a successful and profitable business.

So, it's time to roll up your sleeves and get to work!

Current Market Demand

The global carpet cleaning market is expected to grow by 6.28% per annum, reaching $937 million by 2027.

This growth is supported by a rising number of households with carpets and an increasing awareness of the health benefits of having clean carpets, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Clean carpets help reduce the spread of viruses and bacteria and reduce allergens, which is why many homeowners and businesses are investing in regular carpet cleaning services.

Carpet cleaning has always enjoyed a reputation as being recession-proof and able to withstand economic downturns. This is due to the cost-benefit of people choosing to restore their furnishings rather than replace them.

It remains an industry on an upward trajectory.

Planning and Research

Having read this far, you're clearly someone who is intent on carrying out intelligent research.

This sets you apart from many prospective carpet cleaners that are looking to start a business.

It shows that making the right choices and being fully informed is important to you.

Indeed, in order to start a successful carpet cleaning business, you need to research and plan wisely.

Your initial research should be focused on identifying your target market and potential customer base.

You can use a variety of methods to gather this data, such as surveys, social media (Facebook groups and local hubs) and online research.

By understanding your target customers, you can tailor your branding, marketing strategy and services to meet their needs and solve their problems.

You should also research your local competition and their marketing and pricing. How do they market and price their services and are they busy? Can you spot a gap in the market or a way in which you can stand out?

And irrespective of whether you need to raise finances or not, developing a basic business plan that includes financial projections is a sensible way to sharpen focus and help keep your eye on the ball.

Finally, regular goal-setting is one of the best things you can do to keep motivated in business, particularly in the early days of a start-up.

Your goals and objectives should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART):

Legal, Admin and Finance

Yep, the boring part of starting any business.

First, you need to choose a company name and consider if you're going to trade as a limited company or a sole trader.

It is also important to have the right insurance policy in place to protect your carpet cleaning business from claims.

You'll also need to keep records of your income, expenses and receipts for tax purposes. There are plenty of free, online options that are user-friendly and keep everything in one place.

And have you considered whether you're going to lease or purchase your carpet cleaning equipment and vehicle upfront?

If you're in doubt when it comes to any financial, legal or liability issues, it is always wise to seek specific professional advice.

Professional Training

Professional carpet cleaning requires at least a basic level of knowledge and skill to ensure that you can clean effectively and safely.

And yet you'd be surprised at how many people start a carpet cleaning business with little more than the knowledge gained from lurking on carpet cleaning forums and watching a few YouTube videos.

Don't be one of those people.

Without the correct training, you could end up damaging carpets and causing health and safety risks, never mind failing to meet customer expectations. And in a fast-moving digital world, it only takes a few bad reviews and you're going to be struggling to acquire new customers.

That's why it's crucial to undergo professional carpet cleaning training before starting your business.

Professional training will help you gain an understanding of the correct cleaning methods and techniques and how to operate and maintain equipment, along with learning how to identify carpet fibres and their construction.

You'll learn about the different types of stains and the correct cleaning products to use for each situation (and how to use them safely) and when it's appropriate to wear personal protective equipment.

By undergoing professional carpet and upholstery cleaning training, you'll gain the knowledge and skills you need to provide high-quality services and achieve results that will thrill your customers and earn their loyalty for years to come.

Ultimately, a reputable training course can help you become an effective carpet cleaner and build a successful and profitable business while minimising costly mistakes.

Equipment and Supplies

We believe we offer the world's most advanced multipurpose professional carpet cleaning machines.

Choosing the right equipment and supplies is crucial to your success as a carpet cleaner and as a business.

Here are some key factors to consider when choosing your equipment and supplies:

Marketing and Advertising

This is the longest section of this post, simply because it is often what makes or breaks a startup carpet and upholstery cleaning business.

Branding

For any marketing and advertising strategy to be effective, you need to nail your brand identity.

A strong brand will help to set you apart from your competitors and create a lasting connection with your customers. Your brand identity (which includes your business name, logo, tagline, design and messaging) should be consistent across all online and offline media channels.

Ideally, your messaging should convey the unique selling proposition that makes you stand out from other carpet cleaning businesses in your area.

Website and Copywriting

Once you have confidence in the positioning of your brand, it is vital that you develop a professional and impactful website.

Do not cut corners with this.

All things being equal, it is usually the first point of contact that a potential customer has with your business. And in a competitive niche like carpet cleaning, what do you think compels a searcher to make that initial, first contact?

Confidence and trust.

And if you don't gain the confidence and trust of a searcher within a few seconds of landing on your website, they'll simply click back and move on to browse other companies - your competitors.

Your website should be easy to navigate, visually appealing and mobile-friendly. And the written content should be confident, reassuring and professional.

You should include all relevant information about your services, experience and training. And it must contain high-quality images and clear contact details with multiple ways of reaching you.

A professional website can help you attract the right customers, build trust and credibility, and establish your business as the clear choice in your area.

Google

Now you have a website that you're happy with, you need to be found by online searchers.

It is often said that page 2 of the Google search results is the graveyard of local businesses.

And that's because searchers rarely venture that far down the search results. Mostly, they'll only click on the first few results they find when they search for a carpet cleaning company in their area.

There are two strategies that will help you get found quickly on Google for your services in your target areas:

Paid ads and search engine optimisation.

It is worth taking the time to research the pros and cons of both of these strategies and consider including one or both of them in your carpet cleaning marketing and advertising budget.

Social Media

All of us probably spend a little too much time on social media.

Use that to your advantage.

The two most obvious examples of social media platforms that you should be using are Facebook and Instagram (and YouTube for publishing video content)

Adopt a regular posting schedule which includes any updates and news from your business and social proof in the form of before and after images.

Not all posts will gain a great deal of traction, let alone go viral...

But these platforms can help you build a loyal, local following and act as a brochure for your work and results. Indeed, even if a searcher lands on your website, they will often click through to your social media pages to view recent posts and check you're still active.

There's no need to overthink things and try to be too clever. Just be consistent, confident, professional and personable.

Email Marketing

Sending your previous customers regular emails (with their opt-in permission of course) is a great way to keep your business at the front of their minds.

Believe it or not, despite your best efforts at creating a brand that is memorable, not all your customers will even remember the name of your business a couple of years down the line.

A simple annual email to remind your previous customers that it is time to get their carpets cleaned again is a cost-free way of generating bookings.

You can even automate this process using software such as Mailchimp.

Offline and Print Marketing

Rewind a couple of decades and the vast majority of carpet cleaners' advertising budget was spent on offline marketing; newspaper ads, flyers, local magazine ads, letters and the Yellow Pages.

These days, most established carpet cleaning companies spend very little in comparison to offline advertising.

But they may be missing a trick.

Think of it like this: most people have an inbox full of unopened emails and yet they only receive a letter or two per day through the letterbox.

In an age when most bills have gone online, it's far less difficult to grab the attention of a homeowner with a high-quality flyer that has a strong, compelling offer.

This can be achieved cost-effectively by dropping flyers or letters through the doors of houses on the streets you're working in - particularly during quieter periods.

It is wise not to neglect all forms of offline marketing.

Yes, newspaper ads are probably no longer likely to give you a great return on your investment. But other strategies may prove very successful for you.

Referrals

The key to getting regular referrals is simple (but perhaps not easy):

Provide exceptional customer service and results that generate positive reviews and multiple referrals.

If there's a downside to the digital world, it's that customers have become jaded and sceptical of outlandish claims.

Every business says they're the best at what they do and achieve results that others can't. And why wouldn't they?!

But referrals are the ultimate form of trustworthy advertising - and they're free.

And while a regular flow of auto referrals will take time, this should be your aim from day one.

To thrill your customers and give them the best experience possible.

This positive feedback loop will provide you with immense job satisfaction while ensuring you can charge a price that enables you to grow your business and improve your life.

And I'm assuming that's why you want to run your own carpet cleaning business, isn't it?

Dio-Cleanse (Industrial Disinfectant) - Application guidelines & further Information regarding Coronavirus's, SARS COV- 1 & SARS-COV-2 [Covid 19]

After several posts on our private Texatherm Technicians support group and repeated requests for more information, we decided to share this post with other professionals in our industry. We hope this information is of help.

We've reviewed the ECDC (European centre for disease prevention and control) Report published this year on the 18 February 2020 (Please find link to the report at the bottom of this page). Report title (Interim guidance for environmental cleaning in non-healthcare facilities exposed to SARS-CoV-2). This report lists results after testing was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of certain antimicrobial’s on other Coronaviruses, SARS-COV-1, MERS etc. We then reviewed the raw materials we use and our independent test information on Dio-Cleanse. Please see test information below which should be of help to you. We can confirm the Log kill for Dio-Cleanse is around 6 at 1-20 dilution.

Please remember that the log reductions achieved with Dio Cleanse after 1-minute contact time using suspension test EN 1276 were specific to the test organism’s MRSA PM, MRSA PEM, MRSA PEKLM, HIV VIRUS, HEPATITUS B & C. The product attained BS EN 1040 standards as a disinfectant / Sanitiser and will be effective on many other viral strains.

There is currently no data available on any product specifically tested against SARS-COV-2 (COVID 19) or its effectiveness against SARS-COV-2 (COVID 19) but after reviewing the ECDC report listing Antimicrobial agents effective against other coronaviruses and reviewing the raw materials we use in our Dio-Cleanse, We are quite confident that Dio-cleanse would be effective.

Please remember Dio Cleanse is a Cleaner and Disinfectant so dilutions will be dependent on your reasons for using Dio-Cleanse. E.g. Disinfection, Cleaning & Disinfection or just Cleaning. We would recommend stronger dilutions when cleaning dependent on the soiling levels opposed to just disinfecting.

General disinfection; Normal applications via spray or cloth and wetting of surfaces: dilutions of Dio-Cleanse are 1 – 40 with a minimum of a 1-minute contact time. We recommend a longer 2-minute contact time just to be safe. Stronger dilutions will of course be more effective and quicker due to a larger amount of raw material being present in the diluted solution.

General disinfection in an Infection control Environment; Normal applications via spray or cloth and wetting of surfaces: dilutions of Dio-Cleanse are 1 – 20 with a minimum of a 1-minute contact time. We recommend a longer 2-minute contact time just to be safe.

Fogging in a Infection control environment; This would depend on what Micron setting you have set your fogger on. Because we are applying in low microns via a ULV Fogger, you will need a stronger solution. We would recommend a dilution rate of 1-20 with your fogger set at 10 microns with a 1-minute contact time needed. You can fog at higher dilutions but because of the increased water content and reduced raw material present you would have to set your fogger on a higher setting, over 40 microns creating a wet vapor which could lead to excessive wetting of surfaces, the same volume application you would normally use for general cleaning and disinfection without using a fogger.

General cleaning please refer to dilutions as stated on the label.

Dio-Cleanse (Industrial Disinfectant) Test Results

In this unsure time of Covid-19 many Professional Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners are experiencing a lack of work, cancelled jobs and a general uncertainty.

With the spread of covid-19 many people across the UK are now self-isolating, locking down and not allowing anyone, including trades people, into their homes. But that doesn’t mean all is lost!

Here are some ideas put together by the Texatherm Team that could help you make the most, and more importantly, continue to make money and build your business during this pandemic.

The one thing we’ve noticed here at Texatherm HQ is that we’re still experiencing larger than normal Cleaning chemical orders from our commercial clients. Which begs the question, why?

With Schools and offices being shut down, as well as the fear of catching and spreading Covid-19, now has never been a better time for Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners.

There aren’t only loads of opportunities right now, but there are going to be bigger opportunities after all of this is said and done.

First of all, let’s talk professional cleaning chemicals, what you can use against the spread of Covid-19 and how you can market them.

IMPORTANT

Before we jump in, you can find accurate information regarding  SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19) form the ECDC ( European centre for disease prevention and control )

and our product test results including log kill counts, contact times & more at the end of this blog.

Dio-Cleanse

Biocidal, anti Viral Carpet, upholstery and surface disinfectantBiacidal, anti viral disinfectant

This product is a multi-surface, biocidal disinfectant that has been independently tested and meets BS EN 10 40 Standards.

This product with a 2-minute contact time is effective against Hep B, HIV, MRSA, PEM & PEKM resistant and this product can be fogged.

Now, you can’t make claims about products killing (Covid-19) until we’re able to test.

But by explaining what the Covid-19 strain is to your client and then explaining what Dio-Cleanse will kill (mentioned above), it allows your client to make their own mind up as to whether the product is going to be effective.

It’s all down to how you educate your client.

You can spin this as a preventative measure,

“Make sure your carpets and hard floors and disinfected and sanitised to BS 10 40 Standards to help stop the spread of Covid-19 and reduce you and your family’s risk.”

Why not give them a free Dio-Cleanse trigger bottle to keep on top of there hard surfaces after you’ve gone. You can use this as a booking incentive.

“If you book us to clean, disinfect & sanitise your home we’ll even give you a free bottle of our specialist product that meets BS EN 1040 Standards so you can keep on top of Covid-19 on your hard surfaces when we’re not there”

Advanced Cleaner

Texatherm-Advanced-Cleaner

Advanced Cleaner also contains a biocidal disinfectant that meets BS EN 10 40 standard and will deal with the same pathogens that Dio-cleanse will.

This being said I believe marketing a specialist product to the domestic market will be far more effective than just marketing that “One of the products we use contains a biocidal disinfectant”.

However, I do believe explaining that the main chemical used in your specialist Texatherm low moisture process, contains a biocidal disinfectant that has been independently tested and meets BS EN 10 40 Standards and is effective against Hep B, HIV, MRSA, PEM & PEKM resistant, to the commercial market would be effective, as well as pushing a specialist spotter for the hard surfaces.

Again, give them some bottles as an incentive to book.

So, what does this mean?

If you’re a Texatherm User you know that Advanced Cleaner is the pre-spray used in the low moisture process, however Advanced Cleaner is also a stand-alone cleaning pre-spray also used in conjunction with hot water extraction. This means if you run a low moisture process you now have a list of high Quality USP’s (Unique selling points) you can use to win contracts and commercial work.

If you're not a Texatherm User you can still use Advanced Cleaner for Hot water extraction and sell the benefits of the disinfectant.

Here are some USP’s you can use.

It’s all well and good having these ideas & USP’s, but how are we going to get them through the door and in front of people.

The Commercial Market

Here’s an idea for you to use or expand on. Everyone loves getting something for free, go to all of your local schools, offices, estate agents, vets, anywhere people gather and could be classed as a high-risk contamination area.

Give away trigger bottles of Dio-cleanse to these companies (educate and sell the product, and yourself, as explained above)

Top Tip – If you have your own spotting labels with your company details on. But them on the bottles you give out.

Now this is where you come in. You’ve got your foot in the door, you’ve built some trust by providing free help in from of a product.

The carpets are more than likely going to be full of pathogens and pollutants and need to be efficiently cleaned to ensure sanitisation and disinfection.

Luckily the Texatherm process can do exactly that.

If you don’t have a Texatherm Process System you can still offer a disinfection service using advanced cleaner or Dio-Cleanse and hot water extraction.

Just be wary of potential wick back issues on the low-profile carpets.

Now, I doubt the client is going to want to go over large hard floor areas with a trigger bottle and a towel, if you have an EMV, TC170 & Hard Floor wand you can also disinfect, sanitise and clean the large areas of hard floor.

Professional Carpet Cleaning Machine Spring Loaded Gear Driven Rotary Cleaning Machine Hard Floor Cleaning Wand

Now, depending on what your goal is here there a few things that we can think of doing.

If you’re goal is to bring in some business that day, offer a quote and sell yourself and services as you usually would.

If you’re goal is to build a relationship and gain a customer for the future you can offer a very generous discounted price as during Covid-19 times are going to be tough for everyone.

If you really wanted to build your brand and a name for yourself you could even do it for free..... I know but hear us out.

Get your business name and brand spread all over social media and start getting recognised as the ethical, good business you are. Being a genuine helpful member of the community, in my opinion, will build rock solid trust between you, your company and the public.

This more than likely will lead to more page likes, more post interaction, & more potential clients on your social media platforms that you can market too.

All of that being said, we’re not guaranteeing this’ll be the case, you have to do what you think is best for you and your business. But take note of the kind videos and posts that go viral on social media. It’s usually something Hilarious, very negative or very positive.

Food for thought – Asking businesses (who more than likely have their own social pages) to put out a post about you and how amazing of a job you’ve done cleaning and disinfecting there carpets in exchange for the work (or a heavily discounted price) means you’re not only going to be able to hit your own social media followers but you’ll also be hitting all of their followers.

You never know they might offer you work straight away but if not, you’ve least gotten your company name and services out there. You’ve also built trust and a bit of a connection with people that might consider using your services in the future.

The Domestic market

Running well thought out, targeted social media ads could pay off huge! If done correctly.

Make sure you really think about the demographic, who’s going to be the person that actually picks up the phone and calls you. A lot of this will come down to how you sell yourself and your processes, chemicals and systems.

Make sure your Ad's eye catching.

Facebook and other social media platforms are generally fast pace platforms, think about how quickly you scroll through your own news feed.

Make sure to use colours, images/video and words that demand attention.

Now of course we’d all prefer to bring in work with out having to fork out advertising and marketing costs. And don’t worry there are still options!

You can use the same idea you’ve used for the commercial market with the domestic but with a slight change. Give away free spotters. You’ll need decide what is best for your business.

After explaining the technical information of the product, you can also let the customer know that Dio-cleanse a multi-surface product so they can disinfect and clean all of their hard surfaces.

Now, in order to sanitise and disinfect the carpet of the pathogens and pollutants, the product will need sprayed agitated and rinsed. That’s where you come in.

They take care of the hard surfaces with the free product you’ve given them; you take care of the carpets and the large hard floor areas. And again, the client can keep on top of the spread after you’ve gone. Win, win for everyone.

What opportunities are there going to be once the coronavirus (Covid-19) is over?

This is the time the industries going to boom. The commercial and domestic market are all going to want deep cleans and sanitisation before returning to normality, not to mentioned the new found realisation of the importance of regular deep cleans and sanitisation.

Now if you’ve done anything remotely similar to the above and you’ve already been out and about building trust and brand, you’re already two steps ahead of your competitors that haven’t.

Another idea to consider is during the quiet period use the opportunity to start updating your website and any media platforms ready for the after boom.

Start looking at your text and marketing, you may find you can change and add a lot of keywords more suited towards hygiene, disinfection and sanitisation.

People are going to be looking for disinfection and sanitisation services as well as deep cleans. Make sure your online text is keyword rich without looking like spam, you want your company to be the one that pops up when people are searching.

Create informational videos about sanitising and disinfecting, how your processes work, your dry times and start posting. Establish yourself as the authority and get your brand in their heads, ready.

Hopefully some of these ideas you will be able to use and expand on. We hope you all stay safe and take care of each other, if we all do our part, we can make this a little less miserable for everyone.

Is professional carpet cleaning worth the cost?

A carpet can make a cosy and stylish addition to a living room, bedroom or hall.

But with people walking all over it every day, it can easily harbour grime, dirt, bacteria and pet and human hair - not to mention skin, dust mites, and dander.

So, is it worth booking a professional carpet cleaning company? And how often should we be getting our carpets cleaned?

Perceived wisdom is that we should vacuum once or twice weekly to ensure that surface level dirt and loose abrasive particles within the fibres are removed. But it’s of equal importance to get your carpet deep-cleaned to ensure that the contaminants lurking under the surface fibres are removed.

Whether you’ve just had a new carpet laid and wonder how often it needs to be deep cleaned or are simply curious as to whether you are following the best procedure when it comes to carpet cleaning solutions, read on.

Think of your carpet as a filter trapping pollutants that would otherwise be in the air. So this is great news, not only does it look great but it is helping with keeping the air quality in the house better. We need to empty this filter regularly and maintain it.

Generally speaking, it’s advisable to get your carpet deep-cleaned annually. However, if you have a full household, own pets or have smokers living in the house, then this could be increased to once every six months.

If anyone in your household suffers from allergies or illnesses this can be exacerbated by many pollutants reducing air quality in your home for e.g. general dust, bacteria from food spills, dust mites and their carcasses that float in the air when disturbed etc, I’m sure you’ve seen them when on a sunny day the stream of sun light through your windows highlights small particles floating in the air.

Is Professional Carpet Cleaning Worth It?

In this scenario a deep clean on a quarterly basis could be advisable. Children and pets, in particular are recipes for a dirty carpet, whether it’s spilt juice or muddy foot or paw prints from playing in the garden. Such stains can require specialist carpet cleaning products used by professionals, this is where Texatherm can help.

Vacuuming helps maintain carpets, but to help keep them looking good in the long-term, a regular deep clean is essential. You may ask yourself, why should I use a professional carpet cleaner? or is professional carpet cleaning worth it?

Not only is it important to remove the stains and abrasive pollutants but it is just as important to remove the cleaning agents. Alkali cleaner residues are corrosive to natural fibres and if left can damage natural fibres and cause a resoling problem.

Applying a shampoo through a hire machine without rinsing with fresh water will leave residues in the carpet that will attract soil. Your carpet may look clean but for how long?

When booking a carpet cleaner ask for details on how they are going to clean you carpets. Some unscrupulous untrained carpet cleaners will only spray and recover detergent through their machines, removing the soils but leaving detergent residues behind.

A little knowledge could save you £££s in damage and early replacement. Ask a professional carpet cleaner, are you applying the cleaner directly to the carpet followed by rinsing out the soil and cleaning agent with a stabilising acidic rinse?

Texatherm specialise in professional carpet cleaning training. Once trained, these technicians have experience in using multiple cleaning methods to suit each carpet type and can tackle a wide range of stains that the general public would find difficult to remove without potentially damaging the fibres.

They also come equipped with specialist professional carpet cleaning chemicals which are coupled with the worlds most advanced professional carpet cleaning machines. These carpet cleaning machines are leading the industry and have been designed and built in the UK.

It is inevitable, especially in high-traffic areas, that residential and commercial carpets and sofas will be impacted by dirt, spills, stubborn stains and wearing that eventually needs cleaning.

If you are looking for carpet cleaning products for your cleaning business the options can seem vast and a costly investment. The use of professional carpet cleaning chemicals is hard to avoid if you want to achieve a thorough deep-down clean. Choosing the right range of carpet cleaning chemicals and products requires consideration and research.

Many professional carpet cleaners find themselves only using a hand full of products regularly and often have garages or storage facilities full of unused carpet cleaning chemicals. It can be very confusing when purchasing carpet cleaning products as many manufactures often have a large range of cleaning chemicals for cleaning the same surface, for example they may have 10 specialist cleaning products just to clean upholstery and sofa fabrics.

Picking the correct cleaning solutions is actually a lot easier than you’re led to believe. The most common general soil type, which we as professionals are cleaning daily is acidic soil and therefore only needs a good quality alkali cleaner. Most professionals would only be using a couple of good quality alkali cleaning products varying in pH, such as Advanced Cleaner or Fast Lane to remove the acidic soil on the majority of their cleans. Most of the other products professional carpet cleaners will use tend to be specialist spotters to deal with staining and soil that is not predominately general acidic soil.

Next, we have organic staining such has food & drink spills. Organic staining from plant or animal is organic, carbon or protein-based a good quality alkali enzymatic solution in most cases would be the best choice such as Bio-Trax.

Lastly alkaline staining, alkaline staining isn’t as common as acidic stains and soils, however as a professional carpet cleaner you will inevitably come across this type of stain and more than likely you will require a specialist carpet and upholstery spot and stain remover. Rust for example, Rust is alkaline due to its mineral base and therefore needs to be removed with an acidic solution such as Iron, Mould & Rust remover. Two-part stains where Dyes have set may require a combination of two spot and stain cleaners, for e.g. an enzyme spot and stain remover followed by a solvent spot and stain remover such as wetsolve. Some synthetic stains will require a specialist solvent-based carpet spotter, for e.g. ink, bearing grease etc.

If it’s none of the above it may be damaged! If a stain has been chemically bonded to the carpet or fabric you will no longer be able to remove it with a specialist carpet of fabric spotter. However, in this scenario you may be able to use a oxidising agent. These substances don’t remove the staining substance itself; instead, they bombard the part of a molecule called a chromophore, which is responsible for colour, with oxygen molecules. In short, they bleach out the chromophores that are responsible for the dye sites thus hiding the stain. CBT will give such results
