Over the last few weeks we have seen a substantial increase in valve sales due to freezing, although we appreciate these sales we would rather you didn't have the problem in the first place.
Now that we are experiencing sub-zero temperatures there is a high risk of wand and hand tool valves fracturing due to freezing overnight in vans. When water freezes it expands by approximately 9%, this expansion sometimes can apply enough pressure to fracture a casting or damage the piston and screw cap. A simple precaution is to use an elastic band to keep the valve open which will allow any trapped water between the valve and connector to escape as it freezes and expands.
